Episode 28: San Diego Sports Talk: Interview With Author Gil Sperry

<img src="http://danmclellan.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1156600/0x0_1593821.png" alt="itunes pic" /><br />This show has only one segment, an interview with Author Gil Sperry.

Sperry recently released a book titled Soccer’s Story & A Futbol Fable. In this book, Sperry recaps a remarkable season that he had coaching the Valle Lindo Elementary Eagles co-ed soccer team to a championship game at the Olympic Trainning Center in Chula Vista.

The Eagles run to the championship game is remarkable because most of the members of the team started the season out of shape while lacking fundamental skills, and haveing no concept of team play.

Sperry’s book is so compelling that it has already sparked the interest of screenwriters Robert Conder and Steve Gehrke (Script Supervisor for The Dark Knight). Together they are collaborating on a screenplay which is currently titled The Beautiful Game, A Beautiful Season.

Episode 19: San Diego Charger Podcast: How To Calculate an NFL QB Passer Rating

<img src="http://danmclellan.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1156600/0x0_1446104.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />This is an interactive Podcast that teaches you how to calculate an NFL Quarter Back Passer Rating.

In a podcast experiment, Dan combines the magic of a podcast and the power of Mathematica, to bring you an interactive educational experience.

Dan’s fiancée, Abby Brown, created and published an NFL QB Passer Rating demonstration on the Wolfram Institute Demonstrations’ site (The Creators of Mathematica).

If you choose to do so, this demonstration can be used by you the listener while listening to the podcast, so that you have a better understanding of how the quarterback passer rating is calculated.

You can also choose not to use the demonstration and learn by just listening.

After the lesson, Dan explains why he believes this is not an accurate or effective way to rate a quarterbacks performance.
